9-5 Office Job, or Living in the Sun?

I've been travelling a bit recently and also the sun has decided to make an appearance here in Granada so I have been quite busy. It has been in the mid 20 degrees here all week and hit 35 today.....which has just made the thought of going back to rainy Ireland all the more depressing!

Being in lectures with the people who study straight commerce (without the language and year abroad), me and my friends have noticed a certain mindset that infests itself within the undergraduates. It's the norm these days to go through college, pulling out a 2.1 degree with a lot of effort in your final year and applying to every accounting firm willing to take a look at your C.V.

Coding: Why everybody should learn

So this post is sort of following on from my other one about what we're learning in college, or more specifically what we're not. Here's the video that inspired me to make this post, it's definitely worth the watch!

After watching this I suddenly began to wish that I had chosen Computer Science instead of Commerce International, but hey, there's nothing I can do about it now.

Viral Videos: Why Companies should use them

Gangnam Style, Harlem Shake, Kony and Screaming Goats.....

These are all words that should really never enter our minds, but have become so known worldwide that we end up spending hours upon hours watching videos about them, and we can't get enough!

As much as I like to think  every hour of my day is spent doing something productive, it just isn't true at all, and I would bet most people would be the same. Videos are as easy to come by as they have ever been. Everybody has those days where they just spend hours on YouTube

Is Pinterest really worth $2.5 billion?

$2.5 billion....
That is the recent valuation of a company that is still in the early stages of start-ups, has a modest 100 employees, and who's revenues are non-existent. So why is it being valued at so much?

College: How relevant is what we're learning?

With exams finally over I'm once again able to leave the house and enjoy the sunshine, that is until I get my results. If these exams were in English I'm sure they would have been fine but having to do them Spanish made them quite hard, but what I was really shocked by was the content of what I was actually learning.

Super Bowl Sunday and more

114,700,000   - The number of American viewers that watched last nights game

$4,000,000     - The amount a 30 second commercial cost during the game

$12,000,000,000 - The amount spent on food and Super Bowl related merchandise

With figures like this, it's no wonder that the world's top marketers look forward to Super Bowl Sunday every year!

Well with the hangover from last night finally clearing up I've found some time to write this post. (By the way watching America's biggest sporting event of the year in an Irish bar in Spain has to be one of the more unique nights I've had here!)

The Best Advert of All-Time!

Between moving into a new apartment and 'studying' for exams I have had my hands full, this post came out a lot later than I wanted.  Anyway here it is....

Television ads have always intrigued me, I was always sceptical as to whether or not they even worked. However, once I did some some research I've come to the conclusion that they do play an important role in promoting a product and it's brand. $70 billion is spent on adverts every year, those sort of figures really don't lie, they must work right? I think people often don't want to believe they can be influenced that easily, but honestly I think they can. Businesses don't expect people to go out straight away and buy the product they have just seen on TV, what the ads do is create a positive image in the consumer's mind, they create a buzz and soon people find themselves having conversations about said product's latest advertisement.
